Illinois is home to six golf courses that were included in Golf Digest's most recent list of America's 100 Greatest Courses. Below are the top three courses in Illinois according to the popular publication:

1. Chicago Golf Club - Despite its name, this 6,877-yard par-70 course is located in Wheaton. Regarded by some as the first-ever 18-hole course in the US, it was built in Chicago in 1894, and the club relocated to Wheaton two years later. Golf Digest listed the course as No. 14 in the country in its 2018 rankings.

2. Butler National Golf Club - Located in Oak Brook, this 7,523-yard par-71 course was designed by George and Tom Fazio in 1974 and redesigned by Tom in 1988, 2005, and 2008. It has water hazards on 10 of its 18 holes and served as host site of the Western Open from its opening to 1990.
3. Medinah Country Club - Ranked No. 53 in the nation, the No. 3 course at Medinah Country Club hosted a pair of PGA Championship events won by Tiger Woods. It was originally designed by Tom Bendelow in 1928 and has since undergone several changes, especially to its par-3 17th hole.
